Here, at this land, in the past
it was dry, affected from human beings. The San Stream
has been here as a hope for resurrection, source of energy
and commitment to change the farmland into a forest once
again. Rainfalls in May enable us to grow varied species
of sapling. From saplings into trees, it was full of obstacles.
When winter came to an end, villagers prepared their land
for agriculture by slash and burn which was easy. Fire
spread everywhere without direction and control, and this
was our problem. Big and small saplings were burnt in
a blink. We struggled hard to solve the problem by making
fire protection lanes, using local wisdom, which enabled
saplings to grow. It was exactly as what H.M. the King
mentioned: “Forest can resuscitate itself without reforestation
if there is no disturbance from fire”. This is clear to
our sight when local plants are miraculously thriving
beside planted forest, with collaboration from birds,
small natural plant species spreader when they return
to this piece of forest once again…
Varied sizes and styles of accommodation
are provided for guests: lovely small bungalows for 2-3
people, group bungalows for 5-10 and 15-20 people including
shady and refreshing camping area.
Besides
peaceful and relaxing stay at bungalows, reading your
most favorite books, zipping tea or coffee, you may spend
your leisure time in walking or exercising in Maeslong
Outdoor’s nature trails, studying varied species of flora,
fauna and insects, bird & butterfly watching, swimming,
jogging, mountain biking or horse riding, etc.

Summer is the time for
wild orchids. Varied flowers are in full bloom.

season, Maesalong Outdoor is charming and beautiful
with blinking from hundreds of Fire Fly, blinking
at the same time as stars which are filling the
sky on a clear waning night without cloud
Winter
comes with its bright sky, full of stars, permitting
us to clearly see the Milky Way throwing itself
in the middle of the sky on waning nights. Dews
fall hard on leaves, sounds as if it’s starting
to rain. The weather is piercing cool, making
us miss the warmth of camp fire and fire place.

Bird watching More than 50 species were
seen. Following is the list of outstanding birds seen:
Sooty-headed Bulbul, Red-whiskered Bulbul, Red Junglefowl,
Lesser Whistling-Duck, Common Moorhen, Common Kingfisher,
White-throated Kingfisher, Bronzed Drongo, Scaly-breasted
Munia, Verditer Flycatcher, Black-naped Monarch, Red-throated
Flycatcher, Little Spiderhunter, Copper-throated Sunbird,
Purple Sunbird, Laced Woodpecker, Speckled Piculet, White-rumped
Sharma, Oriental White-eye, Golden –spectacled Warbler,
Yellow-bellied Warbler, Rosy Minivet, Siberian Blue Robin,
etc.
Butterfly watching Following is the
list of outstanding butterflies seen: Red-spot Jezebel,
Banded Treebrown, Intermedia Bushbrown, Annam Bushbrown,
Nigger, Red Lacewing, Common Five-ring, Common Yamfly,
Common Archduke, Common Punchinello, Common Plain Sailor,
Common Lascar, Clear Sailor, Small Yellow Sailor, Anderson's
Grass Yellow, Chocolate Grass Yellow, Common Evening
Brown, Dark Evening Brown, Common Mime, Red Helen, Peacock
Pansy, Lemon Pansy, etc.
Fire Flies watching Hundreds of “Fire
Flies” normally gather around the ‘House under the Tree’
throughout May and June. Thus, it’s not essential to
ride a boat to watch them.
